Mohammed Alaloul Documenting tragedy to facing personal despair in Gaza

Born on Feb 15, 1987, Mohammed Jamal Abdel Raheem Alaloul, a Palestinian photojournalist affiliated with the Turkish news agency Anadolu, plays a crucial role in offering the world insights into stark ground realities.

On 5th November, Mohammed lost four of his five children — Ahmad (13), Rahef (11), Kanan (6), and Qais (4) — in the aftermath of the Israeli airstrike. His only surviving son, Adam (11mo), endured cuts across his face and body from shrapnel during the attack. Mohammed’s wife, Amnah, also bore the brunt of the violence, sustaining cuts from shrapnel, broken bones, and serious burns to her face.

At the age of 13, Ahmed Alaloul, a vibrant and intelligent child with a passion for life, enjoyed activities like swimming and football. More a companion to Mohammed than a son, he took on the responsibility of safeguarding the Alaloul household when Mohammed was at work. Unfortunately, Ahmed’s numerous dreams were shattered by the indiscriminate carpet bombing by the Israeli Occupation Forces along with his siblings.

Rahaf Alaloul held a special place in Mohammed’s heart as his cherished princess, being his only daughter. Her passion for teaching and learning was evident, and she took on responsibilities at home by helping her mother, caring for her brothers and even assisting Mohammed. Her dream of becoming an Arabic language teacher, however, was tragically cut short by the Israeli Occupation Forces.

Kenan, who was 6 years old, was adored by everyone who knew him, captivated by his angelic face. He possessed a remarkable ability to articulate thoughts beyond his years, sparking conversations among those fortunate enough to spend time with him. Kenan enjoyed football, swimming, cherished conversations with friends, and had a fondness for school, though his time there was brief and cut short by the genocidal bombing carried out by the Israeli Occupation.
